Maurice had been producing portraits of relatives and diverse people he would come across in the course of his many trips. Hereby he could perfect his technique while providing a gift to a person dear to him, the portrait being in many cases donated to the model.

In these live sessions, it would not take more than a couple of hours for him to complete a whole work.

Most of these portraits reveal a quite interesting similarity of the expressions and attitudes, although in totally different types of people and completed in very different periods.
