Wherever Maurice would make a halt during a trip in a country or a new continent, he felt the urge to draw, somehow marking the place. His broad knowledge in history and architectural styles, his great visual memory and amazing drawing skills would let him execute at once almost any type of subject, most often without the need of a preliminary sketch.
Today these drawings allow us to reconstitute large portions of his life and many of his journeys.
Works are grouped here in themes, sometimes a bit arbitrary, sometimes overlapping different categories. A frequent underlying theme could be the one of ‘passage’, whether it is a bridge, arch, gate, window or even a stranded boat waiting to be used. Maybe a way to reflect some of the key events of his rich life.
