Spain
Spain had a very special place in Maurice’s heart. It was one of almost unconditional love. With Andalucia having some favor due to a particular meaning in his past – the embarking from Málaga to North Africa in 1943 – no other region had been left unvisited, as testified by his many drawings and paintings.
From the grey skies of Belgium
The young boy had only known the grey skies of Belgium. Later, the Parisian adult would embrace this vast territory, so different from everything he experienced before. A whole world of light and warmth, of unspoiled beauty where the consumer culture had not yet reached. A country where a fascinating past was screaming in every place, at every corner.
In these many works, the viewer is invited to reflect with his own feelings about Spain through her towns and villages as well as in portraits of mainly simple people met during his many journeys.
