Early works
Maurice studied art at Les Beaux Arts Academy in Paris. Several scenes of the city date from that period, as well as a number of nude portraits, when this was part of the academic education. Once graduated, the accumulated knowledge was put in practice. Influences from art trends from that period can be noticed in his works.
It is in those times that Maurice would meet Picasso, who had approached him and invited him to his studio while he was working on a subject outdoors.
Note: a number of works from that time appear today to be rather dark. This is to a large degree due to degradation of the media that Maurice used then, when resources were scarce.
These times were certainly ones of intense enjoyment and hope
